One of American history’s most colorful heroes, Davy Crockett, is credited with helping map out the town of Troy. The town’s first house was a double log cabin that was used as a tavern until the late 1820’s. Troy was the first incorporated town of Obion County in early 1834.

Troy is located just south of Union City, in the heart of Obion County, at the far northwest corner of Tennessee. Troy is about 105 miles from Memphis, Tennessee. When the town celebrated its sesquicentennial in 1975, there were 933 residents, 35 businesses, 2 lumberyards, a feed mill, and a garment factory in operation.
Today, Troy has a population of 1,273, which is growing. Troy is enjoying tremendous growth with housing developments on a new 18-hole golf course, a new municipal complex, and an Industrial Park. The Troy Industrial Park contains some of the best tracts of land in Obion County. Located on U.S. Highway 51, the park has over 25 acres available with all utilities located on site.
Troy has several major events that are held annually. Troy Community Involvement Days are held on the 2nd weekend in July. Vendors from all over come to setup in the city park. There are activities and games for all ages. The Pecan Festival is held Labor Day weekend. During this time, there is a Classic Car Show, Poker Runs, bakeoffs, a quilt show, and a good ole-fashion get-together in the City Park. Music on the Square is held the 2nd Tuesday of every month, and in the winter months it is held at Greater Vision Church. At Christmas time, the town has a parade the 2nd Saturday in December. During the Christmas season, Troy’s town square is brightly lit with a variety of colorful holiday displays that always attract visitors to the downtown.
Troy has a police department, a fire department, a conference center (The Moffatt Centre), a senior citizens building, and a city hall. The town has several banks, popular eating places like Autry’s and Patsy’s Diner among other restaurants. A grocery store, the Dollar General Store, a pharmacy, doctor’s offices, 2 sawmills, convenience stores, churches, an elementary school, a high school, a park and walking track, tennis courts, ball fields, and an electric company are all located in Troy.
