Samburg, Tennessee, is a small town located in Obion County on the eastern shores of Reelfoot Lake. The area now known as Samburg was initially called Wheeling. The town was later renamed Samburg upon the establishment of its post office, honoring a merchant who succeeded Wheeling in operating the local store. Samburg was officially incorporated on July 11, 1953. Today, Samburg is recognized for its proximity to Reelfoot Lake, attracting visitors interested in hunting, fishing, wildlife observation, and experiencing the natural beauty of the area. Samburg is home to Reelfoot Lake which was formed over 200 years ago due to a series of powerful earthquakes along the New Madrid Fault between December 1811 and February 1812. These seismic events dramatically altered the landscape of northwest Tennessee, leading to the creation of the lake.
